When you neither want to smoke, vape, nor eat your pot, why not shoot it down in a jello shot? Jello shooters, or jello shots, are the number one pre-game drink for any party. Take a shot for extra courage, confidence, or even fun. They are sure to make any night one you don't want to forget, or possibly have trouble remembering. Although I'm not quite sure who created the jello shot, I'm glad they did! Candy and alcohol, what could be better?

The answer: candy, alcohol, and cannabis, of course! These Gin and Chronic Jello Shots are certain to cure any ailment or broken heart. Available in all colors in which gelatin may be purchased, you can create a pot jello shot rainbow, or just stick to unforgettable green. This recipe is as easy to create as normal jello shots once you’ve mastered the art of cannabis conversion in alcohol. In no time you’ll be shooting back five, ten, or even twenty of these delicious, sweet, and sugary cannabis treats.

Cannabis can be converted through three mediums: heat (the oven), fat, and alcohol. For this recipe, cannabis conversion in alcohol is the secret sauce in perfecting the Gin and Chronic Jello Shots.

The first essential concept is that of decarboxylation. Decarboxylation is a fancy scientific term (what is that doing here?) which allows the cannabinoid to unlock its psychoactive effects. The most efficient technique in decarboxylation is heat, which is easily achieved when smoking and vaping cannabis. When smoking is not an option, decarboxylation must find another medium in which to convert. In the conversion process, the carbon atom from the THCA is knocked off, thus becoming the popular THC molecule.

Decarboxylation is paramount when cooking with edibles or tinctures (liquid edibles, so to speak). You cannot simply sprinkle cannabis straight from the plant on your food or place it in your mouth. You will not feel any effects. If you want to eat straight plants, this recipe is not for you. Go away, plant eater!

Alcohol is a great converter for cannabis, and it's an ideal alternative to breathing in the substance. For those of you who have asthma or difficulty with breathing, smoking is not always the best choice. Fear not—I’m here to give you some liquid luck!

OG Kush is a legendary strain with orange/red billow buds that are heavily dusted with crystals. This indicia provides more of a head high linked to happiness and comfort––the perfect match to the gin's energizing alcohol. The OG Kush's exotic scent pairs perfectly with the sweet gelatin of the jello shot. Known as a highly effective strain for helping depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and migraines, OG Kush is here to make the Gin and Chronic Jello Shot your perfect remedy.

Marijuana tinctures allow you to control the dosage more carefully and precisely than other methods of ingestion. Before you create the Gin and Chronic Jello Shot recipe, experiment to find your proper dosage. For more information on this, head over to our Alcohol Conversion Article. Plan ahead and know your limit.

Alcohol conversion is the most important aspect of liquid recipes to master with marijuana. It takes about two to four weeks for the alcohol and the cannabis to beautifully blend together to form the concoction of your liking. Impatient? Too bad! Perfection is worth the wait.

How to Convert

You’ll need three ingredients to start:

  • One mason jar with a tight-fitting lid
  • Cannabis
  • One bottle of Gin

Fill your mason jar to the top with cannabis, so it still has a little breathing room to add alcohol. Include the twigs and the sticks (parts I’m sure you throw away all the time). Everything counts in this conversion tip! Make sure that you use clean cannabis as well. Phant Extracts is the clean, natural choice when determining what to use.

Once you put the marijuana into the mason jar, pour the alcohol in the jar until it fills the container. The higher the alcohol content, the better the conversion (good thing we're using gin, right?). Make sure you pour the alcohol over all of the botanicals.

Gin and Chronic

Once you’ve mastered the art of cannabis conversion in alcohol with gin, you’re ready to create your jello shots! Make sure to shake the jar a few times per day for the ultimate conversion.

After two to four weeks, drain the [now very active] cannabis gin into a cup, using a cloth to assist the process. The gin should be a deep brown color. Yes, it doesn’t look very appealing in that form, but it is quite powerful!

For this recipe you’ll need:

  • Cannabis-infused Gin
  • Gelatin
  • 1 Cup Boiling Water
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime (for some extra zest!)
  • Plastic shot glasses

Pour whichever flavor of gelatin you prefer (something green, for me!) into a Pyrex bowl. Then, add the cannabis-infused gin on top and stir. After you are finished stirring, add one cup of boiling water into the mixture and stir again.

Important tip: keep stirring until all of the crystals from the cannabis-infused gin are dissolved. This is paramount in making sure each jello shot has an even amount of the active cannabis.

Once your crystals are fully dissolved, add a few ice cubes to the mixture in order to cool it down. After it returns to room temperature, pour the mixture into plastic shot glasses.

I love to add a zest of lime on top as well as add mini straws to the cups, which help get the jello to your mouth without a mess!

Once this is completed, place the shots in the fridge, wait until they become jello, and enjoy your Gin and Chronic Jello Shots, exclusively from Baked: Cooking with Mary Jean.
